Education

I received my Bachelors of Arts in Anthropology from Pomona College in 2013. It was ranked Forbes Magazine #1 College in 2015, and ranked #4 in the National Liberal Arts 2016 edition. I will be starting my Master's in Elementary Education starting starting in early July 2016. I began my career through the Clark County District's Alternative Route to Licensure Program (ARL) in August 2015, and have a provisional and valid license to teach in Las Vegas, NV in elementary grades. I will acquire my full teacher's license in Spring 2017.

Experience

I worked from June 2015 - November 2015 as a Tutor at Huntington Learning Center in Las Vegas, NV for grades K - 8. I am currently entering my 2nd year as a Kindergarten teacher in the Clark County School District, and use resources such as Reading A-Z, EngageNY, and K-5 Math Resources as primary texts for instruction. Before becoming a licensed teacher in August 2015, I've previously worked as a co-teacher at a daycare in Redmond, WA working with 12 two-year old children specifically full-time in 2014, as an apartment leasing specialist in Las Vegas in early 2015, and as a talent agent assistant when I worked in Beverly Hills, CA in 2013.

Hobbies

I absolutely enjoy teaching, and it definitely suits my personality! I like to make sure that I and my students have fun, and that they are excited about learning. I enjoy using technology while teaching and incorporate it as much as possible. I am always encouraging of my students' success, and always meet them where THEY are. If a lesson is not going as planned, as a teacher, you have to learn the skill to adapt and change so you don't lose the student's interest, engagement, and excitement. I do not focus on letter grades or percentages, as it's not an attainable or realistic goal for a student to have or to be pushed to have. Instead, I focus on their learning style, how to teach them the way they need to be taught for them, and I guide them to accomplish goals they as an independent learner need to accomplish (it always aligns with teacher's standards). It is important that students feel in charge of their learning with appropriate structure so they feel the success is not in the grade, but in how they feel about their accomplishment and work. The growth mindset is certainly a focus of mine.
